I see you, the sweetest doll head tucked inside an egg!
This sweet piece was inspired by antique Easter post cards.
The doll head is an antique German porcelain doll head.
A little history on German china dolls: Antique porcelain German doll heads, particularly china doll & bisque dolls were produced in Germany from 1840-1930s.
I love to rescue antique German doll heads and give them new precious life. The doll heads maybe broken or missing the rest of their body like this little doll head had no body.
I made the antique inspired Easter egg the doll head is tucked in with the antique spun cotton technique.
I painted the egg pale aqua/teal, sprinkled with clear German glass glitter and the egg is accented with antique gold trim. The egg is firmly attach to mossy base. The base is embellished with vintage millinery flowers and ribbon.
A little history of spun cotton: The making of Spun cotton ornaments originated in Germany in the 19th century. Cotton was spun around a wire frame and sealed with a natural glue or starch.
Doll head is firmly attached to the inside of the egg and can not be removed.
Piece measures 3 1/2 inches x 3 inches.
