MumBet:  was the first enslaved African American to file a freedom suit in Massachusetts and WIN! The ruling, in Freeman's favor, found slavery to be inconsistent with the 1780 Massachusetts State Constitution.

Once she gained her freedom, MumBet changed her name to Elizabeth Freeman a national hero, and a symbol of courage and spirit to all who strive for freedom.

She became a prominent healer, midwife, and nurse. and lived to be 85 years old. Elizabeth Freeman is buried in the Sedgwick family plot in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Theodore Sedgwick, is the lawyer who help her win her freedom.

*****

Elizabeth is dressed in a historical blue print cotton fabric with a gathered bodice top vintage trimmings on red stripe sleeves.  Vintage trim for collar with red ribbon and an antique metallic bullion star.

Elizabeth has brown wool hair and I made her a mobcap made of  white star print fabric and added vintage ribbon and vintage metallic bullion star. Hat is sewn to her head and can not be removed.

Underneath her dress she is wearing lace trimmed pantalets. She has blue with white star leggings and her shoes are black Mary Janes.

Pinned to her dress is Elizabeth Freeman's famous quote: “Any time, any time while I was a slave, if one minute's freedom had been offered to me, and I had been told I must die at the end of that minute, I would have taken it—just to stand one minute on god's airth a free woman—I would.”

She is 14 inches and comes with a handmade doll stand.
